The Newfoundland is a breed of dog native of Canada. With long coats and assorted colours (black, bronze and Lands), have characterised the waterproof coat, because of the taste of water. It is believed that one origin of the Labrador.
It comes from the province of Newfoundland, Canada. In English speaking countries, are known as Newfoundlands, and dubbed the Newfies.
Appearance
The new land-have webbed feet and feature a water resistant coat. Males weigh between 130-150 lbs, and females between 100-120 lbs, which puts them in the weight class "giant".
Most new-land is black, but varieties are brown, gray, with white and black, and Landseer (black head, white body with black spots). Landseer The name was given after the artist Sir Edwin Landseer exhibited them in many of his paintings. Some clubs consider the Landseer dog as a separate breed, others regard them as a colour variation of land news. Some other clubs still regard black with white spots and are outside the breed standard, not allowing them to be displayed.
The Newfoundland is similar in size, shape, hair type and the Pyrenean mountain dog, except that these are usually white and new earths are usually black. The Landseer Newfoundland and the Pyrenean mountain dog with black spots on its coat are difficult for a layman to differentiate.
Pelage
Thick, long, greasy-looking and almost impermeable.
Temperament
Responsible and docile.
Land-new trend has a docile and calm. In fact, the description of the AKC (American dog club) says "Sweetness of temperament is the hallmark of the Newfoundland and that's the most important feature of the race." They are protective of children.
History
The origin of the breed is uncertain, but it was used as working dogs on the island of Newfoundland at the beginning of the year 1000 AD-new Land were used for rescue work in the water and pulling. The breed almost became extinct and the majority of new-land of today trace their lineage to one dog named Siki who lived in the 1920s.
The Newfoundland or Newfoundland, originally from northwestern Canada, descended from the Pyrenees dogs taken to Newfoundland by Basque cod fishermen. Its origin dates back to 1700 when the first Newfoundland Landseer was the variety: white and black. The Newfoundland black we know today is probably the result of a rigorous selection. These dogs were later brought to Europe by other cod fishermen, buying a certain popularity. This popularity reached a pinnacle when the 1886 race was officially recognized by the English club's Newfoundland
Curiosities
The dog Nana in Peter Pan James Matthew Barrie was originally a Newfoundland. (Owners of New Lands recent representation of her as a Saint Bernard in the Disney cartoon, the movie Finding Neverland in 2004 used a Pyrenean Mountain Dog).
Unofficially, the second most important breed characteristic is the tendency to drool.
Gander, a Newfoundland who served with the Canadian infantry in Hong Kong in 1941 was posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal in 2000. This medal was instituted in 1943 by Maria Dickin to honour the work of animals in warfare and was recognized as the "Victoria Cross for animals."
Seaman, Meriwether Lewis's dog who accompanied the famous exploratory expedition of the Missouri and Columbia rivers (United States) was a Newfoundland.
